Ian De Los Reyes, 33, who has no known address, and Greenburgh resident Danilo Tolentino, 59, have been arraigned on charges related to the killing of a pet pit bull terrier mix in Tolentino’s backyard last weekend.
Tolentino reported the death of the dog to police on the morning it died, according to Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr.
It is alleged by police that De Los Reyes beat and killed the pit bull terrier and then proceeded to burn its body in a fire pit on Friday night, or early on Saturday, Scarpino said. Tolentino then allegedly attempted to cover up the death of the dog by tampering with the evidence of the dog’s death inside his home.
Scarpino said that a search subsequent to Tolentino’s rest found that he was in possession of methamphetamine, and the pet dog had belonged to Tolentino’s daughter, who no longer lived with him.
De Los Reyes was arrested and charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and is being held at Westchester County Jail in lieu of $150,000 cash bail or $300,000 bond.
Tolentino is charged with tampering with physical evidence, and criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was remanded into custody in lieu of $10,000 bail.
